Falmouth Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours

Best in Show
We had a great night at our "Best in Show" film party. Thanks to all of you who came to the event. And thanks to the Falmouth Cinema Pub for their generosity in hosting the event. Be sure to support the Cinema and the next time you are there, thank them for their support. https://www.facebook.com/Falmouth-Cinema-Pub-1528787514087…/
Our Solar Light
Several people have noticed that the solar light doesn’t go on some late afternoons or goes on for a few minutes only to go off again. We are very excited to have this light, but because it is solar, it does have more limitations than it would if it ran on electricity. The battery requires a certain number of sunlight hours to build up the six to eight hours of energy needed for each evening. During the winter solstice, our potential for those sunlight hours are extremely short, and we have certainly had our share of very gray days. The battery is equipped with a failsafe that protects itself from being drained too low. For that reason, there is the occasional time that the light doesn’t go on at dusk, or attempts to go on but shuts itself off. We hope you can all live with that rare time. We also ask that you text or call Barb at 508-331-2929 to notify her when it isn’t on so we keep a record that will help us make sure the light is simply reacting to a lack of sunlight hours and that these times are rare. We are also very grateful to the Hamilton Company Charitable Foundation for awarding the Dog Park a $1000 grant to begin the next solar light fund, this time increasing safety by lighting up the parking lot area. We hope donations build that fund quickly!
Our New Sign
We are getting a new sign! Corine Adams, an art teacher at Falmouth High, has gotten her students to make a new sign for us. The sign (actually, two… one for each side) will replace the one on Brick Kiln Road. She sent along a picture of two students, Emily Adams and Victoria Johnson working on our sign. We are delighted that we will be able to put up a new sign created by the students at Falmouth High School.
Congratulations to our top Stewards
Congratulations to the seven top Falmouth Dog Park Volunteers for 2016! All of them took care of the park at least 18 days during this calendar year. Coffee Obsession and The Falmouth Dog Park Board want to thank you for your service.
Message from the President
Why Thanksgiving is special to the park
This is the unpredictable time of year when one day seems like summer, one like fall, and one even feels like snow is in the air. At the Dog Park, we go into high gear at this time as we try to make our annual appeal goal, we line up our plumber to secure the water bubblers for winter, plan leaf removal, and arrange for snow removal. We also start to plan for next year’s event calendar, and make sure we have enough stewards trained for the winter months when some of our volunteers leave the area for warmer climates or school year commitments. We appeal to each of you to do what you can to help the park be ready to be available through all the weather thrown at us over the next six months, and to have a great upcoming year. Remember - we are a 100% donation supported park. This park is not funded or maintained by the town! Please let us suggest some of the many ways you can help. 1. Shop at Smile.Amazon.com instead of Amazon.com. This is Amazon’s charitable site and the company gives us a percentage of anything you spend if you make us your charity of choice. 2. For a special price of $10 you can buy a hat or a t-shirt or child’s t-shirt. 3. For $100, buy a tile for the dog park wall in honor or in memory of a person, an occasion, or a pet. Each tile is custom made. Call 508-331-2929 for more information or pick up a form on our website or at the park on the kiosk. 4. Give any size donation in honor of someone and we will send that person a card acknowledging your gift. 5. We also are looking for a few more people to serve as stewards one or two days a month. It takes only 15 minutes and you select the day and time of day, each month. And it can change each month as well so you only have to sign up at the end of one month for the next. 6. Please support all those local businesses that support the Dog Park. Please thank them for supporting the park. The list is posted on the back side of this newsletter as well as in the kiosk at the park. 7. Pick up a rake or a shovel and lend a hand when needed; if you need a pair of gloves look in the box on the front of the shed. 8. Remove a few leaves from the metal dog artwork outside the fence. 9. Save your newspaper plastic bags and add them to the grey holder on the fence to help keep costs down. 10. Stop in and join the Affinity Program at TD Bank; the bank will give us a donation and it won’t cost you a penny. I want to thank each of you for all you have already done to help the park be as good as it is and has been. I want to thank all the stewards, the Falmouth DPW, all the local businesses and all the incredible Board members for every effort made to help the park over these past five and a half years of being open and the two it took to build the park. Happy Thanksgiving and Seasons Greetings to all our human and canine friends!

Help at the Park
When we have a snowstorm, it takes a bunch of volunteers to shovel snow and keep the park open. Here is one of them. Michael Wheeler, a student at Falmouth High, helped us out last week. Thank You, Michael. And Thanks to all of you who pitch in to keep the park open, clean, and safe for everyone.
Falmouth Road Race Grant
Last night, Falmouth Dog Park Board President Barb Schneider and Board Member Frank Fernino were on hand to receive a generous grant from the Falmouth Road Race. Here, Falmouth Road Race President Scott Ghelfi presents the check to Barb Schneider, while other Road Race Board members look on. This check will allow us to complete the walkway within the large area of the dog park. We are very grateful for this grant. Thanks, Falmouth Road Race!
